Apollo 11 launched by Saturn V rocket July 16, 1969. NASA

On July 16, 1969, Apollo 11, carrying Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, was launched on its epic journey to the moon by a Saturn V rocket, from Kennedy Space Center, Florida. Neil would become the first human to set foot on the moon, followed by Buzz Aldrin. Michael Collins would remain in the Command Module orbiting the moon, waiting for their return.
